We transformed this Chicago 9-year-old boy’s bedroom into a space that reflects his unique interests and personality.
We transformed this Chicago 9-year-old boy’s bedroom into a space that reflects his unique interests and personality.
By reimagining the layout and moving the bed away from the wall, we optimized the room for both comfort and functionality, creating distinct areas for sleep, reading, and play. We found a different space for mom’s books, removed unnecessary furniture, hung art, and styled the room with his favorite belongings in a way that’s both organized and visually appealing.
The only item purchased was a bulletin board as the clients had everything else in their home. The result is a space that feels truly his own, where he can grow, learn, and relax.
“A space should make you feel like you, and my room feels completely like me. There are Pokemon paintings and a bulletin board so I can put up pictures. We also played music when we were putting stuff in the bookcases, which was helpful.”
— Clyde, 9-year-old

We worked with this client and her son to shift the bed, which allowed full access to the built-in cabinets and also allowed the room to now function as a guest room when family visits. We had the son help us place books and art in the room to create a space that’s authentic and reflective of his changing interests.

We shifted the leather chair to the other side of the bed to allow a cozy reading space and sourced a three shelf cart from the client's basement to act as a nightstand for her son to store his books and other belongings.

“As a recovering hoarder, I would recommend working with YSW as she honors what people need without judgment or shame, plus she’s a great listener with a great eye for design and a sincere desire to make the living space ideal for living. She’s creative and mindful of cost. I appreciated being able to shop from my own house and not have to buy a lot. It’s cost effective and affirming to help me appreciate my stuff in a new way.”
